Thoroughbred Breeding
Oregon-bred Carl Command (Rogue S. – Commadora, by Sultry Song)

Portland, December 3, 2015 – The Oregon Horse reports that the Oregon Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (OTOBA) has announced new Thoroughbred breeding opportunities in Oregon. With breeding incentives for Oregon-bred foals and additional stimulus programs under development, there has never been a better time to breed a Thoroughbred.

As part of the overall program to encourage Oregon Thoroughbred breeding, Giacomo, the 2005 Kentucky Derby winner, has been loaned by Frank Stronach, part owner of Portland Meadows racetrack, to Jack Root, DVM, breeder and owner of Oakhurst Thoroughbreds.  Giacomo, along with Dr. Root’s Grindstone, the 1996 winner of the Kentucky Derby, will stand at the Newberg, Ore. Thoroughbred farm.

“The Stronach family wanted to do something to stimulate the Oregon breeding industry, which has really dried up in recent years,” said Dr. Root.

“This is an exciting time for Oregon Thoroughbreds,” said Lynnelle Fox Smith, Executive Director of OTOBA. “With the success of the off-track Thoroughbred makeover programs showing the breed’s versatility, people are reminded of the beauty, power and heart of the Thoroughbred for any discipline.” The January issue of The Oregon Horse, the member magazine for OTOBA, will focus on Thoroughbred stallions.  If you have a Thoroughbred stallion and would like to advertise, please contact the OTOBA.

The OTOBA is a non-profit organization focused on increasing public awareness of Oregon Thoroughbred ownership and breeding, as well as supporting Oregon Thoroughbred racing. Beginning in 1944, the OTOBA has supported Thoroughbred racing in Oregon for the last 70 years.  For more information, visit our website at http://www.oregontoba.com.
