The Extreme Cowboy Race at the Lynden Horse Expo, 2012, was the inspiration behind bringing some cowboy race heat back to the fairgrounds for the NW Washington Fair August 12-17, 2013. Just 18 contestants will compete for up to $1500.00 in prize money at the first ever NW Washington Fair Cowboy Race. Eight cowboys and cowgirls will compete daily and a pair of riders will compete side by side while negotiating 6 obstacles. They will attempt to negotiate the obstacles perfectly while racing each other and the clock. The rider with the least faults (missing the negotiation of an obstacle) and fastest time will be the winner. Each day at noon and 5pm, Tuesday-Friday August 13-16, racers will compete for a “finalist” position and $100.00. Each finalist from the daily races will return for the Run-off at noon on Saturday, August 17th. The racer crowned NW Washington Fair Cowboy Race Champion will take home $400.00; second place still leaves with a smile and $200.00. For more information about entering the race or daily race details please contact the NW Washington Fair office, 360-354-4111 or www.nwwafair.com.
