The Story of One Horse, One Horseman and One Final Shot at Redemption
by Mitchell Bornstein
Last Chance Mustang is the story of Samson, a formerly free-roaming and wild-at-heart American Mustang. Plucked from his mountainous home in Nevada, Samson is thrown into the domestic horse world where he is brutalized and victimized. After years of abuse, Samson evolved into a hateful and hated horse before finding his way to a rural Illinois farm, an ill-equipped owner and one last chance.
A former lawyer turned horse trainer, Mitchell Bornstein’s task was to tame the violent mustang. In 20 years of fixing unfixable horses, Samson would be Mitchell’s greatest challenge, teaching him about the true power of hope, and friendship and the inspiring mettle of the forever wild and free American Mustang. Part history lesson, part training manual and part animal narrative, Last Chance Mustang is a story of survival, trust, love and healing. Published in June 2015, the book can be purchased from Barnes and Noble and Amazon for $26.99.
Editor’s Review: While the story of the unfixable horse is certainly not unique, it is a story I never tire of. Humans refusing to give up, animals willing to try again and the way two species change each other is always inspiring.
