Hundreds of horses and riders will be converging in Ravensdale, Washington for the 22ndannual Backcountry Horsemen Tahoma Chapter Prize Ride on September 8th. This family oriented event is open to all equestrians and combines a great trail ride with lunch and the opportunity to win $750 in cash prizes as well as a generous selection of prizes donated by local merchants. “It’s a great day for horse people” said prize ride coordinator Nancy Lee, “We come together to ride and win prizes of course, but the camaraderie is really special.” The prize ride is one of the largest in the state with over 400 participants expected. Following the 3 hour trail ride a BBQ lunch is served. After lunch, the afternoon’s festivities include entertainment by a local DJ, a silent auction and raffles, and the exciting awarding of cash and prizes. Proceeds from this year’s ride will be used to support trail building, trail maintenance, and the “Leave No Trace” education program. There will also be a food drive benefiting the Maple Valley Food Bank. Each item of food donated earns an extra raffle ticket for a special drawing. For more information on the Prize Ride or the Tahoma Chapter visit www.tahomabchw.org or contact prize ride coordinator Nancy Lee at 206-786-3726.
